Sotogrande brings together nearly 400 participants for the first edition of “The Run, 5K Charity Challenge Sotogrande” in support of sport and social action.
All proceeds from this charity race—almost €4,000—will be allocated to a new training space for Hogar Betania in La Línea.
The event, which welcomed the First Deputy Mayor of San Roque, María del Mar Collado, brought together participants of all ages in a festive and family-friendly atmosphere, consolidating itself as a highlight in the local and regional sports calendar. All proceeds from race registrations were donated in full to support the social work carried out by the charity association Hogar Betania.

A celebration of sport, solidarity and community
From early in the morning, runners, families and residents enjoyed a day marked by outdoor activity, community participation and a warm, friendly atmosphere. In addition to the 5-kilometre popular race, the programme featured children’s events, sports activities and social areas that contributed to a welcoming and engaging experience, praised by both attendees and organisers.
The high level of participation in this first edition was made possible thanks to nearly 400 runners, as well as the support of partners and sponsors such as González Sánchez & Partners, Basilisko, Sotogrande International School, Helicópteros Sanitarios, SO/ Sotogrande, Sotogrande Racket Center and Electrolit, whose contribution was essential to the success of the event. Through this joint effort, the race raised almost €4,000, which will be allocated entirely to the creation of a new training room in the residential facility that Hogar Betania manages in La Línea de la Concepción, strengthening the social impact of the initiative.

Award ceremony and institutional support
The award ceremony was attended by Rita Jordao, Marketing Director at Sotogrande, S.A.; and, representing San Roque Town Hall: Alfonso Valdivia (Councillor for Tourism, Strategic Projects and External Funding), Carlos Crespo (Head of the Sports Department) and Fernando Vega (Sports Councillor), as well as Begoña Arana, Director of Hogar Betania. During the event, Rita Jordao expressed her pride in the positive response from the San Roque community, noting that “the race has been not only a sporting event but also a solidarity-driven initiative that brought together nearly 400 participants.” She also emphasised Sotogrande’s satisfaction in collaborating with San Roque Town Hall, Hogar Betania, Sotogrande International School and all sponsors, pointing out the positive impact achieved “when public and private entities join forces for meaningful social initiatives,” and announcing that “this race is just the first of many to come.”
For his part, Fernando Vega highlighted that “San Roque is becoming a sporting benchmark in both the Campo de Gibraltar region and the province of Cádiz, thanks to the quality of its facilities and events such as The Run, 5K Charity Challenge Sotogrande.” He stressed the dual value of the race in promoting healthy habits and supporting charitable causes, and thanked Sotogrande for its role as the Official Sponsor of the programme San Roque, City of Challenges 2026.
Finally, Begoña Arana, Director of Hogar Betania, praised Sotogrande’s involvement in the race and expressed gratitude for the company’s continued support of the association over the years. She emphasised that “initiatives like this not only reflect strong corporate commitment, but also the solidarity and support of an entire community backing social projects.”
