Christmas in Sotogrande. Seasonal events for all the family

Visitors and residents alike will be swept up by the festive mood in Sotogrande. Christmas doesn’t really begin until the Christmas tree lights have been lit – and Sotogrande is no exception.  Seasonal cheer will abound on Friday 6th December when the almost seven-metre-tall Christmas tree on Ribera del Marlin in La Marina de Sotogrande is lit, followed by a much-loved traditional kick-off for the season, when Sotogrande International School sings popular Christmas carols.  A perfect family event – seeing children’s excitement at the magic of the season is a gift in itself. The lighting of the tree will mark the start of a programme of events over the Christmas period.

Get your gifts wrapped early on, leaving time to enjoy the busy run-up to Christmas, with parties galore. If you struggle to get perfect folds on your presents, then the gift-wrapping workshop on Saturday 30 November at the SO/ Sotogrande Hotel is for you. Experts will show creative and simple techniques that will make your presents look immaculate and professional, from perfectly fitted wrap with no unsightly creases, neat seams and flaps, to the all-important finishing touch – an eye-catching bow.

Christmas is a time to think about those less fortunate than ourselves, especially children, so what better way than to gift a toy? The Charity Hogar Betina is organising a toy collection on Sunday 15 December, where the Sotogrande community can share the generous spirit of Christmas for the Nuevo Hogar Betania association. These toys will be given to families in need, ensuring that every child can experience the joy of receiving a gift this Christmas.

Throwing a Christmas party is part of the fun, revelling in the excitement and festive atmosphere. Find out how to impress your guests with delicious desserts and creative cocktails for the Christmas holidays with Chef Alberto Sarmiento at Ancala restaurant in The Beach La Reserva on the afternoon of Sunday 1st December 2024. In this masterclass learn to prepare three rich yet easy desserts accompanied by three delicious cocktails with which to toast everyone’s good health.

Staying on the gastronomy theme, have you ever built a gingerbread house? Now is your chance to construct a tasty seasonal masterpiece! The tradition of building gingerbread houses dates back centuries, possibly originating in Germany, where gingerbread biscuits were baked to celebrate the Feast of St. Nicholas. Unleash your creativity to build delicious gingerbread houses at The Beach on 14 December – see how long your friends and family will admire it before temptation is too much. You could also book a table for lunch at the Ancala Restaurant at The Beach, where Santa Claus will make his much-anticipated visit the same afternoon, arriving by boat.
