This year, Sotogrande® is celebrating its 60th anniversary, with a special calendar of events that highlights everything that has made the destination so revered over the past 60 years.
In honour of this diamond year, there will be a host of activities throughout the calendar for residents and guests to enjoy. The festivities got under way on March 8, with a celebration of the Women of Sotogrande that included a lunch and skincare workshop with luxury skincare brand, La Mer.
On April 23, attention will turn to a paddle surf competition that is set to take place at The Beach and is sure to appeal to the younger generations. There’ll be a series of races per category, followed by a prize giving ceremony and mocktail party: Paddle surf competition
Next up, there will be a charity run taking place around the Sotogrande Marina on May 1. Participants will have the option of taking part in either a 5km or 10km run, with all proceeds from the event going to two local charities – Coordinadora Alternativas and Por Una Sonrisa.
Starting in May, Sotogrande® will be celebrating six decades of film and entertainment. Join us on the terrace of The Beach restaurant between May and September for an outdoor cinema festival, with each showing dedicated to one of the past six decades. Film viewings will be free of charge to everyone booking a table, to ensure a good experience the food and beverage will be paid upon consumption.
On June 23 we are delighted to be hosting a Candlelight Concert – a one-of-a-kind musical experience in a candlelit setting. These renowned events take place around the world, with some of the world’s most skilful musicians performing a variety of famous pieces of music in spectacular locations. This will be the first event of its kind in Sotogrande® and will mark the first occasion that the Candlelight performance group combines its candlelit classical music show with a dining experience. Places will be limited to 140 seats, so please don’t hesitate to reserve your table. Book at lareserva@sotogrande.com
Polo is an historic fixture of the Sotogrande® lifestyle, and this year we will be hosting an exhibition match on July 15 ahead of the start of the season. This event will offer the opportunity to watch two of the most revered polo clubs in the area – Ayala Polo Club and Iberian Polo – as they meet in a friendly, yet competitive, environment.
A key date for the calendar is July 22. Residents, members, and guests will be invited to a 60’s themed party, where they’ll be taken on a gastronomic, musical, and entertainment-filled journey through the decades. We’ll be highlighting some of our favourite memories from the past 60 years, and guests will be invited to get inspired and dress according to the fashion of the 1960’s. The evening will conclude with a lights show. Places will be limited for this anniversary party, so for more information and to book, contact us at lareserva@sotogrande.com
To celebrate Sotogrande’s flourishing sailing community, the Sotogrande Regatta will make its return from August 11-13, as sailing enthusiasts take to the sea off the Sotogrande® coastline to compete for the Sotogrande Cup. This year the Regatta will take part in the celebrations with some novelties that will make this annual event even more memorable.
As part of the celebrations, we’ll also be putting on a one-day golf tournament inspired by the 60’s. Golfers from La Reserva Club, Real Club Valderrama, Real Club Sotogrande, and Almenara Golf will be invited to get together for this unique celebration at La Reserva Club in August.
In what is set to be a year of memory-making, celebrations, and special events, the 60th anniversary calendar will conclude with a final honour in September. With a giant cake, and the SIS choir on-hand to sing happy birthday, the team at Sotogrande® would love to welcome all residents and guests to enjoy a slice during the final act of commendation, on September 23.
This anniversary year also represents an opportunity for Sotogrande ® to increase its support to the local communities. As such, any charges incurred for attendance at celebration events will revert directly in favour of three local charities, whose fantastic work helps socially disadvantaged families, as well as children being treated for cancer.
