Sotogrande Unveils Its 2030 Sustainability Plan

Sotogrande has launched its 2030 Sustainability Plan, a strategic roadmap that transforms more than 60 years of environmental stewardship into measurable ESG objectives and long-term impact targets.

The newly published Sustainability Report highlights significant achievements already made in 2025, including an approximately 23% reduction in water consumption compared to 2023, a 3% decrease in electricity consumption, and a 170% increase in operational photovoltaic capacity compared to 2024.

The roadmap establishes ambitious goals for 2030, including progress toward climate neutrality, the consolidation of a circular economy model, and the strengthening of people’s wellbeing, alongside concrete targets to reduce water consumption by 25%, energy consumption by 20%, and carbon emissions by 50%.

Sotogrande's Sustainability Journey: From Vision to Measurable Impact

Sotogrande has presented its Sustainability Report, concluding a two-year process designed to organize, measure and project into the future a sustainability commitment that has shaped the evolution of the destination for more than six decades.

Since its inception, Sotogrande has developed a model deeply connected to its natural surroundings, based on environmental preservation, low-density development, and a careful balance between growth and nature. The new Sustainability Plan represents the next stage in this journey, introducing a more structured, professional and measurable approach to sustainable management.

Sustainability Goals for 2030

The Sustainability Plan is built around four key pillars:

  • Environmental stewardship
  • People and social wellbeing
  • Economic prosperity
  • Responsible governance

Key targets for 2030 include:

  • Reduce water consumption by 25%
  • Reduce energy consumption by 20%
  • Cut carbon emissions by 50%
  • Achieve more than 60% renewable energy usage
  • Reach a recycling rate of 65%
  • Reduce landfill waste to below 10%

Early indicators already demonstrate tangible progress. In 2025, water consumption was approximately 23% lower than in 2023, while electricity consumption decreased by 3%. At the same time, operational photovoltaic capacity increased from 330 kWp in 2024 to 890 kWp in 2025, representing a 170% rise in renewable energy generation capacity.

“Our goal is to embed sustainability into the daily management of the destination and its infrastructure. Enhancing water and energy efficiency, expanding photovoltaic generation and protecting biodiversity are key actions that help us move towards a more efficient and responsible operating model,” said Alejandro Vedia, Technical Director of Sotogrande S.A.

People at the Heart of Sustainability

The social dimension is another cornerstone of Sotogrande’s sustainability strategy.

The company currently employs 424 professionals, with 95% holding permanent contracts, demonstrating a strong commitment to stable and quality employment. During 2025, employees received 11,119 hours of training, a 34% increase compared to the previous year, supporting the company’s objective of providing at least 30 training hours annually per employee.

Sotogrande’s commitment to sustainability and quality is reinforced by a range of internationally recognized certifications and standards, including:

These credentials help strengthen confidence among residents, visitors, investors and stakeholders while supporting the destination’s long-term sustainability vision.

The company has also recently received the ASPRIMA-SIMA 2026 Award for “Best ESG Progress Company”, recognising its achievements in environmental, social and governance performance and validating its transition towards a more responsible and measurable development model.

Driving Positive Impact Beyond 2030

To ensure accountability and continuous improvement, the Sustainability Plan introduces a dedicated monitoring framework. A Sustainability Committee oversees ESG strategy, while a Balanced Scorecard links objectives, actions, KPIs and responsible teams to track progress and drive performance.

Looking ahead to 2030, Sotogrande aims to evolve from a model of sustainable growth to one focused on positive impact, where economic development, environmental protection, community wellbeing and responsible governance advance together in a balanced and measurable way.
