The Real Club de Valderrama, in the privileged location of Sotogrande, is set once again to attract the very best in golf as the Estrella Damm Andalucía Masters tees off on 13th October. Over four days, the world’s top male players will compete in the lush surroundings of the historic club to win this leg of the European Tour.
Golf fans flocking to enjoy the spectacle can also take advantage of the beautiful region of Andalucía in which it set, itself a Mecca for golf lovers all year round.
Andalucía has built a global reputation as a top-class destination for golf tourism. It is a firm favourite with players thanks to many factors, offering:
The best weather to enjoy golfing
With 320 days of sunshine a year, enjoying year-round golf is a reality.
Something for everyone (from beginners to experienced players)
You don’t have to be Tiger Woods to enjoy playing golf in Andalucía. With almost 120 courses designed by the world’s best players and designers, there are courses for all levels of competency, from beginners to experienced players alike.
Golf, tennis, horse-riding and more
While the wealth of courses means that golf lovers could never get bored, there is more to this area than just golf. Horse-riding, tennis, the increasingly popular stand-up paddle boarding off the golden sands of the nearby beaches – sporty types are spoilt for choice.
With the Andalucía Masters almost upon us, the Sotogrande course is maintaining an enduring reputation for hosting world class competitions. Opened in 1974, it was designed not once, but twice, by Robert Trent Jones Sr., one of the most respected course designers in the business. He conceived the original layout for the club, then was delighted to be asked back to revisit his design in 1984 when the course came under new ownership. Known as for its challenging play, Valderrama has hosted prestigious tournaments including the Ryder Cup, Volvo Masters and the World Golf Championships.
We are looking forward to a thrilling few days and whatever the outcome, spectators can be assured of the watching top-of-their-game sportsmen competing in a world-class setting.
